Job Description Summary :

A test engineer with expertise in automation for the Rocket Software z / Assure Vulnerability Analysis Program (VAP) product requires a robust blend of core mainframe knowledge, manual testing skills, and specialized automation capabilities, particularly using Python. The ideal candidate profile combines foundational z / OS operation with deep analytical skills focused on security and regression testing.

Job Overview :

An engineer with expertise in test automation for the Rocket Software z / Assure Vulnerability Analysis Program (VAP) product requires a robust blend of core mainframe knowledge, manual testing skills, and specialized automation capabilities, particularly using Python. The ideal candidate profile combines foundational z / OS operation with deep analytical skills focused on security and regression testing.

The candidate MUST have a minimum of 7yrs of experience working in a Mainframe environment.

Core Mainframe Expertise

  • z / OS Environment : Proficient understanding of the z / OS operating system.
  • JCL & Utilities : Expertise in Job Control Language (JCL), TSO / ISPF, and navigating ISPF panels.
  • Data Management : Knowledge of mainframe databases like DB2 and VSAM, and experience validating data in both DB2 tables and flat files.
  • Processing Modes : Familiarity with batch and online processing environments; CICS knowledge is advantageous.
  • Programming Basics : Understanding of COBOL programs for testing context.

Specific Knowledge & Manual Testing Skills

  • Product Understanding : Strong analytical skills to understand the security product internally, with z / OS internals knowledge adding significant value.
  • Security Tools : Knowledge of security tools like RACF and ACF2 is advantageous.
  • Testing Methodologies : Strong understanding of SDLC, STLC, and QA methodologies.
  • Test Case Design : Ability to break down complex system processes into manageable test cases and identify potential weaknesses or loopholes.
  • Testing Execution : Experience in test execution, defect management, and out-of-the-box thinking for PTF (Program Temporary Fix) testing.
  • Testing Types : Expertise in extensive regression testing across the product lifecycle.

    • Automation Skills (Python Focus)

  • Python Programming : Solid understanding of Python syntax, object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts, and relevant libraries.
  • Automation Frameworks : Experience using PyTest or unittest for building robust test automation suites; familiarity with Behave for BDD is a plus.
  • Mainframe Interaction :

    • Experience with RPA tools or APIs designed to interact with mainframe systems.

  • MUST have experience in 3270 terminal automation using Python libraries such as py3270 or py3270plus.
  • Data Validation : Ability to automate the validation of data presented on mainframe screens and within back-end databases / files.
  • Jenkins, Ci / CD pipelines

    • Preferred Qualifications
