Sr. Vice President, System CNO

Provides executive leadership for nursing services across Nicklaus Children's Health System and has direct operational accountability for nursing services across Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Coral Springs hospitals. Responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, quality, safety, workforce, financial stewardship, and professional nursing practice across the health system. Partners closely with Hospital COOs, Chief Medical Officers, physician leaders, and executive leadership to ensure consistent delivery of exceptional patient care, nursing excellence, workforce engagement, and operational performance. Reports directly to the System Chief Operating Officer and serves as the senior nursing executive for the Health System.

Accountable for the financial performance of nursing services across the Health System, including labor management, workforce productivity, premium pay, contract labor, operating and capital budgets, and resource stewardship. Provides executive operational leadership for nursing services across the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Coral Springs hospitals. Directly oversees nursing leadership across the Health System and establishes accountability for operational, clinical, quality, workforce, and financial performance. Serves as part of the organization's highest governing, decision-making, and strategic-planning body, as the advocate for nursing to the Board of Directors. Responsible for all nursing practice regardless of reporting relationships. Coordinates and approves the formulation and evaluation of patient care programs, policies and procedures, and standards of care which ensures the needs of patients are assessed, evaluated, and met. Ensures other clinical and administrative groups are involved as appropriate. Develops standardized nursing policies, operating procedures, clinical standards, staffing models, and care delivery models across the Health System. Partners with the System COO and hospital operations to achieve operational excellence, patient access, capacity management, quality, and financial performance. Provides nursing leadership for new hospitals, acquisitions, affiliations, and expansion into new markets. Develops and implement a visionary model for professional nursing practice. Assures national excellence in pediatric nursing practice, research, and teaching is achieved across the organization. Encourages a collaborative work environment among inpatient units, hospital departments, and programs and provide a structure that promotes evidence-based practice and nursing research. Develops systems to effectively and continuously monitor quality and safety. Ensures an active performance improvement program whereby patient care can be evaluated and solutions to problem areas sought in a group process involving collaboration with the medical staff and respective departments. Directs the development and implementation of nursing strategies to promote the retention, recruitment, and development of highly motivated and qualified staff, recognizing them for their expertise and level of performance. Works collaboratively with Talent Management, Marketing, and Education to develop and maintain an effective recruitment, retention, and education plan. The plan addresses recruitment, retention, resource utilization, staffing productivity, staff skill mix, competencies, professional practice, nursing education, and work-life conditions of nurses. Oversees and participates in the annual staffing, operating, and equipment budget development and allocation. Assesses the allocation of financial and other resources for appropriateness, effectiveness, and efficiency. Reviews all of the department expenditures with Leaders at frequent intervals. Participates and develops strategic planning initiatives with patient safety and quality in mind. Evaluates, selects, and integrates health care technology and information management systems that support patient care and efficient resource utilization. Represents the Health System in community, governmental, academic, and professional organizations to advance pediatric nursing, strengthen strategic partnerships, and support the organization's mission. Participates in system-wide long range strategic planning activities as an active member of the senior leadership team with an emphasis on excellence in clinical care, programmatic space & resource planning, and overseeing the application of nursing practice. Represents nursing at key local, state, and national forums. Maintains strong partnerships and collaborates with colleges and university schools of nursing and/or other health occupations in planning future curriculum, student experiences, and programs. Provides a future workforce at the undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate level.

Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements Master's Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Registered Nurse Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) maintain active and in good standing throughout employment NE-BC, NEA-BC, or CENP American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Organization of Nursing Leadership (AONL) nurse executive certification More than 10 years of management experience and/or Administrative leadership in a healthcare environment Previous experience in a pediatric acute care environment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions. Ability to use complex mathematical techniques to budget and provide productivity assessments. Ability to use logical and scientific thinking to interpret technical data and solve a broad range of problems. Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers. Able to effectively monitor and develop the abilities of subordinates. Demonstrates current knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes that impact reimbursement or practice. Implement effective monitoring systems to assure compliance with regulatory bodies such as boards of professional practice and safety organizations. Maintains current knowledge of changing technology, trends in health care, and standards of care & practice in pediatric health care.
